Alia Ahmad is a painter living and working in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Born in 1996, she creates abstract paintings that reflect on memory, place, and the shifting environment around her. Her work often draws from the textures of the desert, the patterns of Sadu weaving, Arabic calligraphy, and the visual language of a rapidly growing city. These references come together through layered mark-making and thoughtful use of color.
She studied Digital Culture at King’s College London, graduating in 2018, and later completed a Master of Research in Fine Arts at the Royal College of Art in 2020. Her academic training continues to shape how she approaches painting, bringing together research, observation, and instinct.
Ahmad’s work has been exhibited in solo shows at Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles, White Cube in Paris, and Albion Jeune in London. She has also participated in group exhibitions such as the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale in Riyadh and Considering Female Abstraction at the Green Family Art Foundation in Dallas.
In her paintings, Ahmad often explores the relationship between stillness and movement, tradition and change. She paints from a close connection to her surroundings, inviting the viewer into quiet, reflective spaces. Her work speaks to the way identity and environment grow together, shaped by time and place.
