Bio
Ahmed Farid is a self-taught Egyptian artist born in Cairo in 1950. After completing a degree in social sciences, he embarked on a successful career as a businessman, working in Italy's furniture retail sector and founding several highly successful businesses. His frequent travels to Italy kept his connection to the art world alive, ultimately inspiring his transition to a painting career.
Farid's artistic journey began in 2006. With no formal training, he ventured into the world of art, purchasing a book on painting, some paper, oil paints, and two knives. Just two years later, in 2008, he started exhibiting his work in group shows across Egypt. His talent and unwavering commitment soon earned him recognition, leading him to become a resident artist at the renowned Safarkhan Art Gallery in Cairo, in 2016.
In his artworks, Farid weaves his personal and cultural experiences into his art, creating faint, abstracted ethereal figures and elusive shadows that emerge from layers of color. This evolving style, marked by fluidity and depth, has become a defining characteristic of his art. His colorful art reflects a continuous exploration of new techniques and forms of expression, inviting the audience to connect with his journey.
Farid's works have transcended borders, gaining recognition not only in Egypt but also on the international stage. His exhibitions in cities such as Beirut, London, Dubai, New York, and Florence have brought his art to a global audience. In addition to his artistic practice, he serves as a Visiting Professor of Art at the Accademia D'Arte Firenze. Today, Ahmed Farid is regarded as one of Egypt's most prominent and in-demand contemporary artists, a source of national pride.
