Bio
Bachir Demnati, an artist who was part of the Casablanca movement from 1970 to 1978, embarked on a unique artistic adventure. His path diverged from the traditional discourse of the movement, where he chose to explore compositions influenced by urban planning and the balance of forms.
Demnati's works reflect a profound search for balance, almost mystical in nature. Through a lexicon of universal forms such as circles, lines, and curves, he invents an abstract language that strips away the vibrant chromaticism of the Casablanca movement. Instead, his compositions reveal a preference for "pure forms," echoing Malevich's notion of the supremacy of feeling. The forms within Demnati's works oscillate between balance and dynamic movement, challenging our visual perceptions and prompting us to reconsider our definitions of equilibrium.
