Bio
Dalia Baassiri, born in 1981 in Sidon, Lebanon, is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose work is deeply rooted in her personal experiences. Growing up in a country marked by ongoing war and unrest, Baassiri’s art is a medium to question and reflect upon Lebanon's turbulent history. Her exploration of the domestic realm—dust, walls, and the objects that fill a home—acts as a metaphorical landscape where she finds both refuge and meaning. This personal connection to her work invites the audience to empathize with her journey and the stories she tells.
Baassiri's diverse practice spans drawing, painting, and sculpture. She is known for her innovative use of materials such as graphite on paper, charcoal on plexiglass, dust, rust, wipes, glue, acrylic primer, and pastel. This unique combination of media allows her to transform mundane, everyday objects into thought-provoking narratives about home, identity, and resilience, sparking curiosity and interest among her audience.
Baassiri's work has achieved significant international recognition, with exhibitions at prestigious venues such as Galerie Janine Rubeiz (Beirut), the Beirut Art Fair, Menart Fair (Paris), Art Dubai, Abu Dhabi Art Fair, Ayyam Young Collectors’ Auction (Dubai), Galerie Odile Ouizeman (Paris), Stand4 Gallery and Community Art Center (Brooklyn, NY), Arsenale Nord (Venice), and OXO Tower Wharf (London). In 2017, she held her first solo exhibition in Lebanon, titled "Wiped Off," at Galerie Janine Rubeiz, marking a significant milestone in her career.
