Bio
Ghada Zoghbi was born in Shmestar, the Bekaa’ Valley of Lebanon, in 1980. At the age of 18, she relocated to Beirut to pursue her education at an art teachers' college. In 2010, she completed her education at the Fine Art department of the Lebanese University.
In 2016, she hosted her first solo exhibition Personal Realms, at the Artspace Gallery in Beirut. Drawing inspiration from Luciano Freud's expressionism and Rembrandt's mastery of light, she unveiled a collection of 13 oil paintings. Each piece narrated the personal narrative of a random individual within her local community, depicted through glimpses of their wardrobes. This exhibition marked the beginning of her exploration into the intricate relationship between personal and communal aspects.
One of her most celebrated series focuses on structures caught-in-a state of mid-construction or abandonment, offering a unique perspective on the coexistence of color and vitality within the rugged contours of the human footprint. Her skillful mastery of perspective, dramatic compositions, and whimsical details infuse a profound complexity into her depictions of these imposing industrial subjects.
Zoghbi continued to delve into this theme, examining the connection between individuals and their surroundings. Her art has been featured in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs both in Lebanon and internationally, including Jordan, Qatar, Egypt, Algeria, the UAE, and France. She is proudly associated with Galerie Janine Rubeiz in Beirut and Al Diwaniya Gallery in Algeria. Notably, her work has garnered recognition at prestigious international auctions such as Christie's Dubai.
Ghada Zoghbi is resolute in her stance of remaining apolitical and free from religious affiliations. Her artistic vision aims to empower humanity as a whole, transcending the artificial boundaries drawn by society. Over the past two decades, she has also served as an art educator, enriching the educational experiences of young children, including those from inner-city backgrounds and refugee students in Lebanon.
