Bio
Jean Boghossian is a Belgian-Lebanese artist of Armenian descent, known for his innovative use of fire and smoke in his artworks. Born in Aleppo, Syria, to a family of jewelers, Boghossian was introduced to design at a young age, receiving private drawing lessons from the age of six. This early exposure to craftsmanship and design influenced his later artistic pursuits.
Although he is associated with the Zero movement and Fluxus, Boghossian developed a unique style after years of experimentation, using fire as his primary medium. His works involve burning materials like paper, canvas, and plastic, often incorporating vibrant colors inspired by his expertise in jewelry. This creative process blurs the lines between drawing, painting, and sculpture, earning him a reputation as an "alchemist" in the art world.
In addition to his fire-based works, Boghossian employs techniques such as folding and collage to add depth to his pieces, and his sculptures often feature materials like wood, marble, bronze, and polystyrene. The artist last solo exhibition took place at Anima Gallery in Doha, Qata, in 2024, entitled "Flames"; it depicted Boghossian's journey from a jewlerer to a full-time artist.
