Joseph El Hourany is one of Lebanon's rare sculptors who employ wood as his primary artistic medium. He holds a degree in Higher Studies of Architecture from the Académie Libanaise des Beaux Arts (ALBA) in 1999. In 2005, he pursued his Master degree in Urban Planning from the Lebanese University, and in 2009, Joseph obtained his PhD in History, Theory, and Criticism (HTC) of architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), his research delved into the application of architectural parametric principles within the context of cybernetics.

Employing innovative morphing and mutation techniques, El Hourany's wooden sculptures intricately explore the dynamic relationship between conceptualization and materialization. He articulates a philosophy where each facet of his creations holds equal significance, defying traditional hierarchical structures in favor of an organic, process-driven approach.

El Hourany has contributed to numerous architectural and urban planning ventures both locally and internationally. He shares his knowledge and insights as an educator and lecturer at various esteemed research institutions and universities.
