REHAF AL BATNIJI, Palestine (1990)
Bio
Rehaf Al Batniji, a self-taught photographer and visual artist from Gaza City, Palestine, has made her mark in both local and international art scenes. Recently, she was awarded a prestigious residency by the Institute of France and the Cité Internationale des Arts. Her first solo exhibition, held in the backyard of her Gaza City home in 2020, marked the beginning of a series of showcases, including a solo exhibition at the Institut Français de Gaza in October 2022.
Rehaf’s art extends beyond photography; she is also a painter, a drawer, and an educator, teaching photography to youth and adults in Gaza. Her work is rooted in street photography, where she finds inspiration in the everyday life, culture, and identities of her fellow citizens. Through her intimate and detailed observations, she has developed a distinct visual language that captures the beauty of the landscape and its people, offering a powerful, positive perspective on life in her homeland.
Beyond exhibitions, Rehaf has participated in a residency at FilepaManuela in Madrid and has collaborated with various organizations, such as the Qattan Foundation, Goethe, Institut Français de Gaza and Tunis, Kamel Lazaar Foundation, Darat al Funun, Cairo Photo Week and others.
