Born in Khartoum in 1966, Salah El Mur is an artist who touches on various disciplines: photography, film making, illustrations, painting and sculpture. The richness of El Mur production reflects the inspiration, that he took from the many years of travelling throughout East Africa as well as the Middle East. Having gained a local and international exposure, his oeuvre though stayed related to his homeland: Sudan. Using a palette of warm colors and a slightly abstract style, the painting of El Mur is characterized by his appeal for the Sudanese people and their traditions. Yet, the artist does not give a specific narrative behind the scenes that he depicts, as he prefers to organize the elements with fantasy – revealing his talent of illustrator for children’s books. Salah El Mur lives and works in Cairo.
