Bio
Samar Abu Elouf is an award-winning Palestinian photographer and freelance photojournalist based in the Gaza Strip. Since 2010, she has worked with prominent outlets like The New York Times, Reuters, and others, capturing powerful stories focused on gender, women, children, and the impacts of war in Gaza. Her dedication to visual storytelling has led her to document significant events such as the 2018–2019 Gaza border protests and the 11-day conflict in May 2021, which resulted in the destruction of vital infrastructure and loss of life, including some of her own family members.
Samar’s work has been recognized by organizations like World Press Photo and the Arab Documentary Photography Program, where she received mentorship and training. She has also collaborated with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to cover the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the challenges of working in a conflict zone, she continues to produce intimate and dignified images, highlighting the resilience and struggles of those living in Gaza.
