Visual artist and researcher, Safae ElKadi, was born in Casablanca in 1983 and began her creative path studying architecture in Rabat. Her interest in urban life and spatial memory led her to photography and video art in the 2010s where she began creating installations and documentary works that focus on Moroccan cities and the people often left out of urban narratives. Her background in architecture helped shape her attention to space, memory, and overlooked stories.
ElKadi’s work often starts with research – interviews, old photographs, found footage – and then becomes a visual piece that’s both personal and political. She has exhibited in Morocco, Europe, and West Africa, and participated in artist residencies that pushed her practice into curatorial and community work. She was part of the MAJAZ 2024/2025 program at Comptoir des Mines Galerie in Marrakech, which supports emerging Moroccan artists in developing their first solo exhibitions.
Now based in Rabat, ElKadi continues to blend activism and art, working on projects that explore identity, urban change, and social visibility. Her installations often feel like quiet but powerful calls to see the world differently – through the lens of those who are too often forgotten.
This is a short biography. The full version, along with research, CV and sources will be posted soon. Stay tuned and visit us often or become a member to be notified of our updates.
