Shaikha Al Mazrou, an Emirati Postwar & Contemporary artist born in 1988 in Dubai, has engaged in a series of sculptural experimentations and investigations throughout her career. These expressions of materiality reflect her exploration of tension, the interplay between form and content, and a profound understanding of the physical properties of different materials. Her work draws inspiration from contemporary artistic movements focused on formal and material elements, including color theory and geometric abstraction.

Al Mazrou earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Sharjah before completing her Master's at Chelsea College of Fine Art, University of the Arts London. She has participated in prestigious residency programs, such as those at the Delfina Foundation in London in collaboration with Tashkeel, as well as in Bastakiya, Dubai, with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. In 2014, she was among five international artists commissioned by the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture to create a public artwork at the Jalila Cultural Centre for Children in Dubai, as part of the 'Make Art Possible' initiative. She currently serves as a sculpture lecturer at the University of Sharjah.

Al Mazrou's sculptural forms are inspired by geometric shapes found in desert crops, symbolizing human intervention and the transformation of arid land into productive areas using modern agricultural techniques. Her fascination with the systematic placement and rotations of these crops leads her to question the hybrid creation of modern engineering. These calculated, non-native circular shapes, existing in an environment they do not naturally belong to, prompt contemplation of nature's role in a world heavily influenced by human presence. Her artistic journey has been deeply rooted in the history of sculpture, abstraction, and contemporary art. Despite this, she maintains a strong conceptual and physical focus on formal considerations within her investigative practice. Each of her works, characterized by simple gestures, strikes a balance between harmony and tension, presenting a refined culmination of relentless experimentation. This playfully rigorous testing encompasses material essence, conceptual compression, formal representation, and abstract articulation.
