Yervant Hawarian, born in Qamishli, Syria, is a Lebanese artist of Syrian heritage, acclaimed for his significant contributions to Lebanon's movie poster and large-scale banner advertisement industries. From the early 1960s to the late 1990s, his painted banners occupied multiple cinemas across Lebanon. In the wake of the Lebanese civil war (1975 - 1990), Hawarian's work delved into new realms, cementing his position as a prominent figure in the socio-political art scene.
His journey from being a self-taught artist in Syria to achieving renown as a commissioned artist in Lebanon reflects his commitment, creativity, and mastery of his inner vision. Despite the ephemeral nature of his works, all of which were destroyed after serving their purpose, their scale and impact left an indelible mark on Lebanon's visual landscape for three decades.
