Born in 1949 in Sfax, Adel Megdiche graduated from École des Beaux-Arts in Tunis and traveled to France, where he resided at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in 1977. And from 1980 to 1982, he stayed and taught in Rabat, Morocco, then after returning to Tunisia, he taught at the École des Beaux-Arts in Tunis, and at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Art in Tunisia. The artist created a oneiric universe where he combines figuration, abstraction, symbols, and calligraphy. His forms and images arise from the depth of local or Arab Islamic heritage, through mental and dreamy, personal or collective images. He highly celebrates the Tunisian culture, notably with the luxurious garments that wear the characters. Adel Megdiche collected his characters from the past, from wars, from history, and folk tales.

Megdiche’s compositions are crowded since he integrates geometric elements such as squares or triangles that he superposes and combines with Arabic script. Besides, he applies colors with an almost scientific technique through combination and tones. His choice and use of colors show that he explores the light emanating from each color and which illuminates his canvases.
