Born in Alexandria in 1937, Adel Mohammad Al-Masry obtained a master's in Fine Arts from the Department of Painting at Alexandria University in 1972 and completed his Ph.D. in 1978. Throughout his career as a painter,  Al-Masry was particularly committed to the field of art education: he taught at the Faculty of Fines Arts in Alexandria University since 1962, and later on, he was appointed professor in the High Institute of theatre in Kuwait between 1981 and 1990. During the 1980s, he actively participated in the development of the cultural and artistic scene in Egypt, namely being a member of the Arts and Writers Group Atelier, Alexandria, and the Syndicate for Plastic Arts, Cairo. In his art, Al Masry used recurrent motifs such as the moon or the horse that he would insert in imaginary scenes. He combined multiple symbols from the Ancient Egyptian culture or the global iconography with enigmatic and more contemporary figures. The talent of al-Masry is such that he was assigned to restore some artworks and mural drawings at presidential palaces in Alexandria. The artist passed away in 2004.
