ARAZ TALIB, Iraq (1970 - 2016)
Bio
Araz Talib was born in Kirkuk, Iraq, in 1970. As a child, he used to draw the mountains and landscapes of his country. Aspiring to be an architect and film director, his dream was cut short by the start of the Iraq-Iran war in 1980, and Talib was called into military service. He eventually fled his native country to Jordan and then settled in the Netherlands, where he studied at the University of Amsterdam and later acquired his studio. In his works, Talib painted surreal landscapes inspired by mythology and his native country, using colors reminiscent of the Iraqi nature and mountainside. The artist also created stylized realist portraits, ornamented with traditional Iraqi embroidery. He passed away in 2016.
