Ayman Essa was born in Gaza, Palestine, in 1974. He graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts, with an emphasis on Photography from the Al-Najah University in Nablus in 1999. In 2011 he received his MFA specializing in Painting from the University of Helwan in Egypt. In his works, Essa paints large-scale figurative portraits of women with exaggerated rounded shapes and vibrant colors. His paintings are characterized by linear outlines, embroidered bodies, and elongated two-dimensional facial features. The artist still lives and works in Gaza.
