Born in 1978, Mahmoud El Dewihi first studied commerce before dedicating his career to sculpture after he discovered the pieces of Adam Henein and became one of his closest assistants. The sculptor finds his primary source of inspiration from his hometown, Aswan, in Upper Egypt. Following the footsteps of his predecessors, he works with granite or bronze and represents the countryside life through its inhabitants were they peasants or fishermen, mostly by the Nile river. El Dewihi's straight lines and the smooth appearance of his works reveal the figures as if emerging from the past, through the centuries, as if they were immortal. Mahmoud El Dewihi lives and works in Cairo.
