Mohamed Taman was born in Tanta, Gharbia Governorate and studied at the Faculty of Art Education at the University of Helwan in Cairo, graduating with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts in 1998, and a Master’s Degree from the Painting and Designing Department in 2004. In 2008, Taman enrolled at the Université Lumière Lyon in France and went on an Artist in Residency a year later at the Kunst Halle in Switzerland.

He paints using a technical process he invented called “Tamanism,” characterized by layers of colors and materials that he makes by hand, the untraditional method includes several petroleum derivatives and oil oxides, to produce works based on chemical reactions. Using petroleum solvents to agitate the process, the result is an intentional blurry view that incites the viewer and appears to be multi-dimensional from afar.

Taman lives and works in Cairo, and is currently the Director of the Research Art Center of New Media Arts under the jurisdiction of Fine Arts of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.
