Stelio Scamanga was born in Damascus, Syria, in 1934, to native Greek parents. In 1952 he moved with his family to Beirut, where he grew up and completed his education at the Lycée des Pères Lazaristes. Since he was young, he used to copy European Master Artists under the supervision of his ecclesiastic professors. Scamanga took drawing, painting, and sculpting courses at the American University of Beirut from where he graduated with a Bachelor in Architectural Engineering in 1960. In 1976 the artist left Beirut to Geneva and eventually settled in France in 1980.

Scamanga’s abstract paintings adorned with an architectural construction used vibrant colors with a perspective that maintains the illusion of depth. His works, freed from any transfiguration of the reality, married forms to colors and sometimes included a source of light at their center, bringing his vibrant colors to life, and conveying to his painting a meditative culmination.

Scamanga lives and works in Prévessin-Moëns, France.
