THAMEUR MEJRI, Tunisia (1982)
Bio
Born in 1982 in Tunis, Thameur Mejri studied painting at the Institute of Fine Arts in Tunis. Currently teaching at the Higher Institute of the Arts and Crafts in Kairouan, he completed his Ph.D. in Sciences and Technology of Arts. In his work, the artist focused on the relation between the human body and the object to tackle with a grain of provocation the present issues related to cultural norms. He questions the result of the religious canon on the body affected by sorrow, pains, which eventually dies to reach the Creator. He also wants to roughly show the complexity of the world, almost chaotic and the fragility of its people. Thus, he adopts an existentialist approach to perfect his art. With a palette of bright colors and abstract figures, he featured skulls, body limbs, dinosaurs, or technology products in a very experimental method, combining multiple references from Art History like Pablo Picasso or Jean-Michel Basquiat. Thameur Mejri lives and works in Nabeul, Tunisia.
