As an architect, writer, and curator, Jumanah Abbass works within ecology interdisciplinary, participating in discussions and debates about architecture. Abbas received her Bachelor in architecture from the American University of Sharjah (AUS) in 2018, and Master degree in critical, curatorial, and conceptual practice from Columbia University (CU) in New York City, in 2020.
In her work, the artist explores the political dimensions of the electromagnetic spectrum and its role in shaping environments. Her focus lies in charting the sonic terrain and unseen infrastructures of the West Bank, shedding light on the fragmented auditory landscapes composed of sound waves, frequencies, and cloud-based systems that have failed to adequately support the essential needs of urban life in a smart city context.
Jumanah is currently working on the inaugural edition of the upcoming Qatar Museums (QM), Rubaiyat Qatar’s quadrennial project, a multi-site art exhibition project that is taking place in 2024.
