Tanya Habjouqa, born in 1975 in Jordan, is a documentary photographer, journalist, and educator. She studied Journalism and Anthropology in the United States of America and earned a master’s degree in Global Media and Middle East Politics from the University of London SOAS. She began her career in Texas, documenting Mexican migrant communities and urban poverty before returning to focus on the Middle East.

Tanya’s approach combines social documentary, collaborative portraiture, and participant observation. Her work delves into themes of gender, representations of otherness, dispossession, and human rights, with a keen focus on the ever-evolving sociopolitical landscape of the Middle East. She balances sensitivity with a sharp eye for the absurd, producing nuanced narratives that challenge mainstream media portrayals and highlight our shared humanity.

Tanya currently resides in East Jerusalem. Her work is exhibited globally and is part of prestigious collections, including the MFA Boston, Institut du Monde Arabe, and the Carnegie Museum of Art.
