INASS YASSIN, Palestine (1973)
Bio
Inass Yassin was born in Nablus, Palestine, in 1973. She graduated with a BA in Plastic Arts in 1996 from the An Najah University in Nablus, then taught art history and art education for a year at the UNRWA society college in Palestine in 1998. In 2009 Yassin received her MA from the Winchester School of Art of Southampton University (UK) and an MFA in 2019 from Maine College of Arts (US). She was appointed director of the Birzeit University Museum (2010-2017) and art instructor at Birzeit University (2013-2015).
A multimedia artist, Yassin’s works encompass painting, sculpture, video, installation, and illustration of children’s books. Her works address the social changes of Palestinian culture since the late 80s. In her projects, she archives incidents in the changing cityscape and subsequently studies the transformation of social life in her community. Yassin lives and works in Portland, Maine, where she has her studio.
