Janet Hagopian was born in Khoramshahr, Iran in 1967. Originally from Armenia, she studied at her native country and graduated in 1995 from the Yerevan Institute of Fine Arts and Theatre, with an MA in Decorative Applied Arts. Later Hagopian moved to Lebanon, where she held the position of art director of the Toros Roslin Art Academy at the Hamazkayin Art Centre from 2007 to 2011. She is also a member of the Hamazkayin Lucy Tutunjian Gallery and has been a part-time instructor of drawing at the Lebanese American University since 2015. In her works, the artist mainly creates abstract paintings using oil to convey the social and religious actualities that an Armenian woman faces in the Middle East. She highly focuses on the structure of her imaginative shapes and colors to create a powerful composition that allows the viewer to steer clear from reality and reflect on isolation and existentialism. Hagopian lives and works in Lebanon.
