Michael Halak was born in 1975 in Fassuta village, Palestine. The contemporary artist pursued his bachelor degree in Fine Arts from Haifa University in 2002. In 2005, he got selected for a residential scholarship in Florence Academy of Art in Italy, followed by a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Haifa University in 2009.
Halak’s artistic motion emerges from the western tradition of the realist-illusory movement and stands in between hyperrealism and conceptualism. His signally realistic style expresses the systematic yet absurd reality between man and place, and other objective themes. The artist’s illusionary paintings emerge from observation and examination of real life events, accompanied with an artistic twist, that conceptualizes a certain disturbing and damaged form of reality.
Michael has received several awards including the Ministry of Culture and Sports for contemporary artists, and the ‘Rappaport’ prize for a young painter amongst many other awards.
