Leila Kubba Kawash was born in Iraq, 1945. At the age of sixteen, she left her country to study at the Manchester School of Art and Architecture and graduated with a National Diploma of Art and...

Leila Kubba Kawash was born in Iraq, 1945. At the age of sixteen, she left her country to study at the Manchester School of Art and Architecture and graduated with a National Diploma of Art and Design in 1966. Afterward, Kubba Kawash would leave her country to live in the UAE for thirteen years then relocated to Greece, the UK, and later, the US, where she studied at the Corcoran College of Art and Design from 1988 to 1992. The artist stayed in the US till 2005 when she rejoined her husband in Beirut and founded the art gallery, Artspace Hamra. Kubba Kawash paints figurative forms and calligraphic symbols in an expressionistic manner, inspired by Mesopotamian history and Sumerian heritage. The artist still lives and works in Beirut.
