Najib Youness was born in Mosul, Iraq, 1930. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1954 with honors. In 1978, he founded and became president of the painting and calligraphy...

Najib Youness was born in Mosul, Iraq, 1930. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1954 with honors. In 1978, he founded and became president of the painting and calligraphy departments at the Fine Arts Institute in Mosul, until he retired in 1983. In 1996 the Ministry of Education awarded him with the Medal of Iraqi Art Pioneers. A pioneer of modern Iraqi art, the artist, painted landscapes and memories from Iraq, in an academic manner and a hint of Impressionism. Youness passed away in 2007.
