Part 2. Launched in 2019, Modernism on the Nile: Art in Egypt between the Islamic and the Contemporary offers an in-depth overview of an important stage for the arts in Egypt, and the region, from the late 19th century through the 1960s. In the second part of the conversation, Alex Seggerman introduces another great Egyptian master from her studies, Abdel Hadi El Gazzar (1925-1966), and sheds light on the evolution of the conceptual, and artistic representation of the female peasant – fallaha – in Egyptian modern artworks.
