ADEL AL QURAISHI, Saudi Arabia (1968)
Bio
Adel Al Quraishi was born in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, in 1968. From a very young age, he showed an interest in photography and dabbled with various types of cameras and techniques. In 1991, through the mentorship and guidance of his friend Brazilian photographer Humberto da Silveira, he began to pursue photography seriously.
Even though Al Quraishi mastered landscape photography, his passion lays in portraiture and capturing people as his subjects. He believes there is depth to a portrait that is beyond what the eye first sees, a difficult challenge he enjoys placing on himself.
He works with both large format analog and digital Canon cameras. One of his more iconic works is the commissioned project by the current governor of Medina H.R.H. Prince Faisal bin Salman Al Saud, to capture the portraits of the last remaining existing guardians of the Prophet's Mosque (Al-Masjid Al Nabawi). He was the only man allowed to capture these eight guardians, three of whom passed away. They were exhibited in the group exhibition Letters and Illumination (2014) in Medina.
