Born in 1947 in Ain Beïda, Algeria, Rachid Koraichi studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Algiers between 1967 to 1971. He pursued his studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs from 1971 to 1975 and at the Institut de l’Urbanisme between 1973 to 1975 both in Paris. Following that, he graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1977.

Growing in an old Sufi family, Koraichi consequently finds inspiration from the Sufi calligraphic tradition but applies it in further innovative practice. He retains the spiritual, namely magical aspect of the calligraphy from the Persian poet Djalal al-Din Rumi’s work, and integrates multiple references from Arabic literature like the Algerian novelist Mohammed Dib or the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. He also attaches importance to the script itself, sometimes recalling the Chinese ideogram or giving them a form of talismans. Thus, he uses symbolism in his pieces to celebrate life and its beauty.

Koraichi works within a wide range of media such as painting, textile, printmaking, ceramic, metallurgy, and installations. Rachid Koraichi lives and works between Paris and Tunis.
