El Seed is a French-Tunisian street artist born in 1981 in Paris, France. His family, who settled in France, didn't live according to the Tunisian culture. El Seed decided, however, to reconnect with his roots during his adolescence. He used to speak the Tunisian dialect at home, and he only started learning to read and write classical Arabic at the age of 18, that's how he discovered calligraphy, his primary source of creativeness. Inspired by the artists Hassan Massoudy and Nja Mahdaoui, he pays attention to the lines of the letters that he kinks with each other sometimes, filling the space with colors, which gives his works an ornamental outcome. El Seed considers calligraphy to bridge the two Western and Eastern worlds: it speaks to the eyes directly without a need to a specific understanding, for him, just like music, Calligraphy is universal. Also, calligraphy is a means for artistic expression to unite people from everywhere, and every generation around shared values such as tolerance and peace. Through several projects, he covered facades of buildings, institutions, or religious monuments all around the world where his monumental works interacted with the cities and its inhabitants. El Seed's work is not only limited to street art, but it also encompasses sculpture, canvases, art installations. The artist lives in Montreal.
